Sahara’s Men’s Domestic Violence Group

This program educates and assists male participants about the underlying beliefs and attitudes towards domestic violence. Facilitated group discussions provide ongoing support, educational and interactive activities. Topics addressed within this group include:
  • Identifying abuse, myths, power and control, equality
  • The cycle of violence and control
  • Anger management
  • Effects of violence on children
  • Nurturing children
  • Healthy sexuality
  • Effective and non-abusive communication skills

Domestic Violence Shelter (Sheriff King Home)

YW Sheriff King Home is a short-term crisis shelter for women with or without children leaving domestic abuse and violence. During their stay and afterwards, women and children can also access one-on-one support and referrals to help children understand and make sense of their experiences and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. Domestic Violence Support Outreach Program

This program is for women leaving or experiencing domestic abuse and is an alternative option for women not staying at the YWCA shelter or transitioning out of the shelter. The outreach team provides short-term case management services to women who have experienced domestic abuse or family violence. Services may include safety planning, abuse education, emotional support, referrals and support around basic needs and housing programs, legal services, system navigation and assistance to access community resources. Childcare is also available through this outreach support program and the program is free. Children’s Cottage Society-Crisis Nursery

The Crisis Nursery provides supervised, supportive, and non-judgemental child care to children aged 0-8 years old. Parents or guardians can call the Crisis Nursery and access the services when they are:
  • Feeling so stressed that parenting feels impossible
  • Exhausted by your child’s behaviours
  • Experiencing a sudden illness or hospitalization
  • Homeless or have financial difficulties
  • Feeling alone, sad, tired or overwhelmed
  • Afraid that you may hurt your child
  • Experiencing marital conflict
This service is provided free of charge to ensure children receive safe and supportive care. Depending on individual circumstance, a child can stay at the Crisis Nursery for up to 72 hours How to register: Call the 24/7 Crisis Line at 403-233-CARE (2273) and one of the Family Support Workers will guide you through the admission process.
